Bring a scenario, not just a feature list
Describe one complete journey through your intended integration. Include the request your system sends, the response it needs and what should happen if the response arrives late. This makes a sales demonstration easier to challenge with practical questions. For game content or business software, also explain the markets and use cases you intend to support.
Ask for a documentation sample before treating the demo as an integration commitment. OpenAPI provides a standard way to describe HTTP interfaces. Where a provider supplies such a description, your developers can review operations, request structures and responses alongside the written guide.
Test the difficult moments
A useful evaluation includes an expired credential, a duplicate request, a temporary outage and a delayed callback. Ask which system is authoritative when records disagree, and how your team can investigate a single transaction or operation. The point is to understand recovery work before it becomes a production incident.
- Sandbox access and sample requests
- Authentication, permissions and credential rotation
- Rate limits, error responses and retry expectations
- Version changes, deprecation notices and support escalation
Compare the whole delivery package
Record who owns implementation, testing and post-launch incidents. Request an estimate based on your scenario, including prerequisites and exclusions. Keep technical readiness separate from commercial agreement and permission to serve a particular market. A directory listing or a successful sandbox call does not settle those questions. Finish the review with a written pilot acceptance checklist that both teams can use.
Your working checklist
- Compare one shared integration scenario
- Review recovery and observability
- Assign an implementation owner
- Agree pilot acceptance criteria
